Understanding plan steps

Each step in your Z2X Path is a discrete unit of work with a clear input, a clear output, and an assigned agent.

Step anatomy

Status

  • Pending — waiting for earlier steps to complete, or for you to start it
  • Ready — all prerequisites met; you can run the agent
  • Running — the agent is actively working
  • Review — agent has finished; your approval is needed
  • Done — you've approved the output and marked the step complete
  • Skipped — you chose to skip this step
  • Blocked — missing information or a prerequisite hasn't been met

Assigned agents

Each step is assigned to an agent type based on what the step requires:

AgentSpecialises in
Step RunnerGeneral execution — research, drafting, analysis
Competitor AgentMapping the competitive landscape
Pain Signal AgentFinding evidence that real people have this problem
Growth Hacker AgentOutreach, early customer acquisition
First 100 Source Map AgentFinding the exact places your first customers hang out
MVP Spec AgentScoping a buildable first version
Decision GateSynthesising evidence to recommend continue/pivot/stop

Required inputs

Some steps require you to provide information before the agent can run. For example:

  • "Your top 3 competitor URLs"
  • "A draft of your value proposition"
  • "3 real quotes from potential customers"

If a step has required inputs, a form appears when you open the step. Fill it in before running the agent.

Expected artifacts

Each step produces one or more artifacts — documents you can review, edit, approve, and export. Examples:

  • Competitor analysis report
  • ICP (Ideal Customer Profile) document
  • Landing page copy draft
  • Outreach email sequence

Artifacts are saved permanently to your vault and can be referenced by later agents in the same plan.

Evidence required

The evidence list tells you what signals would make this step genuinely complete — not just "agent ran" but "you have real-world validation." Examples:

  • "At least 5 people confirmed they have this problem in your own words"
  • "Competitor pricing pages reviewed"
  • "One person said they'd pay for this"

Meeting the evidence criteria isn't enforced — but decision gates will evaluate whether you have it.

Running a step

  1. Click on any Ready step
  2. Review the required inputs — fill them in if prompted
  3. Click Run agent
  4. Wait for the agent to complete (typically 20–60 seconds)
  5. Review the output in the artifact panel
  6. Click Approve or Request revision

If you request a revision, you can add notes explaining what's wrong or what you want changed. The agent will re-run with your notes as additional context.

Editing steps

You can edit the title, description, and instructions of any step before running it. Click the pencil icon on any step to open the edit panel. This is useful when you want to narrow the agent's focus to your specific context.
